The basket is a form with which de Lamerie is closely identified and the development of his designs from the adopted R gence style through to rococo can be studied in the Museum collection. The first recorded basket with his mark dates from 1724 but ten of this example's design are known - the majority marked for 1731. The Regence strapwork in this design still persists, but with the waft of rococo scrolls and shells. The engraving on this group, and on most of de Lamerie's plate from this period is associated with the same anonymous hand.
